Nevermind. I think I got a workaround.

There is apparently a real Ninja Gaiden NES fanbase, so alot of the maps are posted. I figured out how to extract some of the platforms into rpgmaker chipsets.

If you want the latest update, try this:

https://app.box.com/s/eqeeogo4i38q9953vgrz0fxx44guttgh

This should show the link, no matter which update or whether someone has an account or not.
(This will also be more useful, in the event that I made errors or bugs)

I'm making a 3D platformer Ninja Gaiden trilogy (and yes, I've imported a couple dozen movie files using Bandicam, lowering the resolution to RpgMaker friendly 320 x 240 scale).

image

image

image

image
(Ryu getting his dad's letter and the Dragon Sword from the wall. I decided to cut the first scene into the duel, and what I could easily do without a movie)

image
(This isn't in the original game! You can invite Ayane, so battles are a bit easier)

The game will have timers, and be a sort of mashup of puzzles, platforming elements (different from the original, in that it uses 3D motion), and team fighting. The idea is that the main stages have the ability to "assassinate" creatures by striking first, or battle creatures by touching them, or do stealth mode by avoiding all creatures. At the end of the stage, your speed of completion, enemies killed or battled, and whether you completed a stealth mission totals up to points, which in turn either gain experience (battles themselves yield no experience until the stage is done) or gold to buy upgraded weapons.

image

image

The game is based on the NES Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, but there are added characters from the newer games (Ayane and Kureha).

I have tested a tutorial stage and gotten the timer to work, an invincibility flame item to work, a creature time stop to work (both of these items use a second timer, so they are probably mutually exclusive without glitching though). I've also managed to find some enemy sprites which I'm in the process of refitting to monster and charset files. I've got Backdrop files for boss battles. I could probably even recreate the cutscenes if I wanted to save space (because these movies are taking up ALOT of space).

I've toyed with this idea before, but I've never really gotten this far.

The problem? Well, mapping of course. Specifically, I need maps preferably ones with a lot of objects to bounce from. I currently have future cities and forest and mountain stuff, but no modern cities and nothing really suitable for the demon/techno aesthetic of Ninja Gaiden. And I have no midair objects like long signposts. I suppose I could snapshot some of the stages, and rework things. But I'm already getting worn out.

Thank you!

I know it didn't get alot of attention, but basically my motto is not to make games that I am sure everyone will like (that usually results in boring formula games imho), but ones that I like, because I included things that I thought were cool.

This way, even if nobody else likes my game, I at least can be pleased with it.

Verehn a dit:

I would advice against trying to translate every pun too literally. Instead, you could specify which texts should include puns, and let every translator figure out which pun could be implemented.

Citation:

Did Gundam even air in France?

Gundam Wing and Gundam SEED did.

Citation:

Is anime even a thing in France?

Yes. :D

You didn't get the good Gundam then.

G Gundam is pure cheese.

I think I'm going to translate another game instead, Tales from the Reaper.

bulmabriefs144 - posté le 27/04/2021 à 21:49:42. (25 messages postés)

...I'm not so sure about this project.

It's okay, until I account for the technical issues.

1. I have several events that check names. Changing the language will get the names to show correctly, but may break the event. I would need to reconstruct some of these events. For example, I have a season event that checks the name of season (I could have used a variable, but I found it was easier to keep track of things). If I rename Fall as Automne, the event breaks. :doute5 If I don't, it displays wrong. :grah1
2. I could in theory make the game bilingual, having most of the core game mechanisms intact, and just using a variable or something to swap the text. But this would result in hundreds of spells and items remaining untranslated. There's also strings such as shopkeepers or event text before or during battle.
3. No matter what, I have roughly 20 pages of text per battle, and about 780 common events. Many of these events are already so long as to create lag.
4. The maps and such were fine. I was able to make quick progress with them getting translated. But many of the translations involved were pop culture memes that probably don't have an equivalent. Some of the puns are simple to change (I have an item called "Cherry's Pie" which translates almost exactly right into "Tarte aux cerises" or "pie of Cherry". I then say in the description that it is designed by Cherry the programmer (not a pie made of cherries) and that it's actually made of blueberries). But then others are quite literally Youtube memes (A fireball spell has in the description "This hand of mine is burning red! Its loud roar tells me to grasp victory!" Did Gundam even air in France?)

Is anime even a thing in France? Or would some of the pop culture references be completely lost?

5. Editing graphics, yay!!! I have text graphics and such that would require complete retool of many existing pictures.

(Another of my games might actually be able to be translated, though)

Side note: if there is no anime in France, the world is doomed.

More plugins!

LongNames.zip

This is fairly simple. You store very long strings into the hero names
91 to 94 using
@first "(string)" , end
@second "(string)" , end
@third "(string)" , end
@fourth "(string)" , end

I tested out and the only thing it couldn't manage was newlines and \n \v code.

file_control2.zip

This has a lot of commands involving external text files.

Spoiler (cliquez pour afficher)

If you understand how to use this (there is a learning curve), you can create stuff like bonus features, or events which run on a second playthrough. I had three uses of this in my game:
-I renamed The Player to whatever you pick, store it, and then say "Welcome back, (Character)!" if the The Player is not The Player.
-I added alot of story bonuses.
-I also added a playable epilogue

Basically that.

I took some Spanish and some French in high school, but I guess I would say "c'est muy malo"?

My game doesn't seem to be what it could be in terms of audience interest, and I suspect it totally doesn't have to do with terrible feature creep, and being a game nobody gets.

I want some help translating this game, but I think what I want most are two things:

- The ability to translate terrible puns from English into French, and still be funny
- Commitment. There's alot of items, status effects, spells (you don't have to mess with the names, variables, or switches) and a lot of common events.

You translate it, and I'll put it in. Don't worry about that part. (The Oracle of Tao one)

What I want to do, ideally, is a sort of variable branch or something, so don't worry about building the thing. I just need something better than Google Translate can give me. But what I might end up doing due to space constraints is just to make a copy game file. This might be harder if I later add or edit something.

(Or will it be too difficult?)

So I am testing the new fishing mechanic out.

If you have Ambrosia (main character) unarmed, you won't catch fish. If you have another character in the party (a selkie named Selqui) they dive for fish and there's about four pictures or so with Selqui basically putting on a seal skin then a seal diving, and a seal eating fish. Yummy! But for the sake of this, we are just showing the main mechanic, if Ambrosia is equipped with Fishing Pole.

image

(I basically cut the background out, edited the battle charset graphics, then repasted as another layer)

If she is, you see the main picture, before checking to see whether any fish bite. You have a 25% of no fish at all. After that, you roll a 1-10 roll, with 10 being that you get attacked by a sea monster instead of catching anything. If you get the other 9 rolls, you see this one, meaning the fishing minigame has begun.

image

image

The fishing minigame is basically a looped common event that checks a Hero named (FishName) against one of four choices. Each of these four choices is based on another Hero name (FishPosit) which runs your current choice based on your last choice. That is, it sets the (FishPosit) name after checking the last choice. For example, for a swordfish, I would have to weave to the left and right. Each fish has a crude AI based on a choice menu and previous choice combinations. A right choice combination draws the fish closer. A bad choice can lower it, or worse, snap the line.

Assuming your fish doesn't get away (or snap the line), you are treated to this.

Ummmmm, come check out my game?

image

I'm not really very savvy on alot of these video animations. So it's probably gonna look less impressive than other pages. Oh ummm, first, the link to the game.

Download Link

The basic premise of the game is that there's a demon and an evil wizard and a mission from God to stop them. That's the official story, a girl from the slums gets mystical tattoo powers, joins a large group, and brings everything to balance. Also, the world used to be the Earth, but it was divided into the New Earth and the Void after a major cataclysm. But it's not all that it seems on the surface, and I'll let you decide how true that all is. I designed this game to have a major plot twist at the end of the first half, and a playable New Game + to resolve the rest of the story. So yes, I've basically told you nothing about the plot but an apparent lie. :doute6

Here's a Let's Play video that I made (none of the video players seem to like it, so I just made a link)

https://www.bitchute.com/video/OenfFPc4NXdv

It gives you a fairly good understanding of the game, even if it's not the latest version. It's also funny to watch, as I die alot in the playthrough, and I spend much of the time earning money in an unorthodox way.

I had alot of sidequests and extra features, after I finished the main story, so I spent alot of my effort trying to make this more a custom system. Some of the things I worked on:
-I made the game run in OpenGL huge window mode.
-Limited voice acting and some royalty free gameover/intro songs.
-A monster bribery system.
image
-Party switch menu (includes support for two parties, as in here)
image
-Editable text colors and types (you'll notice that the one that I like from the LP is a nice gradient but I don't think everyone likes it). I might update this in the future.
-An open world where you can hunt, fish, mine, do sidequests, etc.
- A completely unique battle system that changes the format of battle based on environment and other factors. This could also update, I suppose, but I like it pretty well.
-A custom battle item system (you equip four items you will use in battle)
-Custom save and load screens.
-Other stuff!

Just out of curiosity (and yes, I understand that I am a weirdo that can't really understand the majority language of the forum), what is the weirdest RpgMaker code that you'd ever made? Both in terms of how you coded it or the end result?

For me, there was the time where I decided to make a battle ability that was based around victory/flee/and something called "spare" stats, and made a sort of bribe-based spare system (basically, what you'd get if you combined the Zelda 1 feeding event with Undertale). Most of the the non-boss battles start with a "press enter to continue battle," where if you cancel, you can bribe. So what happens if you manage to balance the stats? You can basically escape battles while gaining experience.
Oh yeah, and making a flat Earth that you can fall off of.

Can someone who knows what they are doing, like an admin or something, change that to bulmabriefs144, Messu, Watanuki? It currently reads the others in the wrong section. Well, assuming it's cool enough to even get accepted. If not, moot point.

Anyway, back to other projects. I'm currently working on fixing party handling so I can have an exact party. Data Access is a godsend.

bulmabriefs144 - posté le 30/03/2021 à 21:56:16. (25 messages postés)

It's freeware. And yes, Garu, that is where I got it from.

If I am reading the French of the original version, it was originally from a Japanese program, but the Japanese had a lot of switches and such that were lost in translation (or rather coding). I honestly don't understand most of the code of the current version, so I left it alone. Then some group in Poland translated it from Japanese. Then we got the current authors from French. Then I tried it. So... I don't know the first authors (but it was likely created there from another engine), and I'm not sure the second author either. But what I can credit, I will.

I think the thing that scared me is that I go to Propose, and it says "Attention: :avert2 n'usurpez jamais la paternité d'un script !"

I'll say this version came from me (inasmuch as I worked on it), and credit the last authors too.

I have translated (and edited a small amount of the code) the FaceMaker utility into English. Basically, I wanted an English version, so I translated everything. The problem is, I know the last people to work on this were Messu & Watanuki, but I don't really know the status of a virtually identical program. And from what I understand, it has been translated through at least three languages (Japanese, then Polish, then French) so I don't know.

If I went to Propose, would it be well-received? Would it likely be rejected? Or would I be banned in a horrible and merciless way, followed by coming to my house and burning it down? (Okay that last one's a bit...)

Btw, I made a Toggle Background option, because I'm insane and have too much time on my hands.

Forget it, I'm not sure how to do this anyway. Should I credit myself as the author since I edited the program? Them? Something else?

Yeah, I'm not sure about most of the other stuff, but it appears you said that advanced_math handles sines, cosines, and tangents. What I tried to say was that I did two or three variable formulas, percents, roots, and exponents, but not sine, cosine, and tangent. That was what I meant about mistranslate. To be fair, I think I used some English-only expressions.

Mind if I toy with that .ods some? I know who made the two programs you're not sure about.
(Also, the descriptions are difficult to read, so I'm gonna word wrap them some)
And tbh, I only worked on one of the KazString plugins with Kazesui. The second is entirely me (I need to edit that...)

I find it interesting that it actually translated my title into French.

Yeah, I speak very little French (using a Google-based page translator), beyond what I learned from high school (since I've graduated college over 15 years ago, that is not much good).

Citation:

Hello,

If you want to post a list of plugins, you can do it here.
However, since the plugin is not official and less likely to be used/recommended, I won't sticky it (the title is clear enough to be easily found, though).

I already updated Cherry's main post to add links to plugins : https://www.rpg-maker.fr/index.php?page=forum&id=19911&deb=1

However, if you have an easy way to search plugins through cherrytree.at (the list of stuff has not been updated since 2012?), it would be useful to sort all this stuff.

If you want to host Dyn (or other) plugins on the site, you can do it too. I would just ask, if you're not the author, that you ask for permission to the programmer first, else it will just get denied eventually.

For the most part, the only one that wasn't strictly my stuff was the RequestedPatches one. It was two of my favorite plugins, that I personally asked for. The rest here is stuff that I made myself. I would figure this list is from people who want to post their own stuff (assuming they have not already just used the Resources to post plugins there).

I wouldn't know where to start with CherryTree. It seems to be a bit of a mess to navigate. I currently use CherryShare, which is really just as big a mess, because it basically involves you making links to your own uploads and there doesn't seem to be a way to search for PepsiOtaku's plugins for example.

I think part of the problem is there is a list of a number of plugins (the vast majority seem to be from AubreyTheBard, Cherry, PepsiOtaku of rpgmaker.net, but there are a few from ) but as you say, without the author's permission, they cannot really be posted. The other problem is... nvm, I found it. Plugins are under Programs not Scripts. And the other problem being that I don't speak enough French and can't find my way around the site easily. :doute5

It appears you mistranslated me too, though, so I suppose there's some of that going around.

Ummmm... referring to Google Translate here...

(Maybe sticky this thread?)

I wanna make a place where people post DynRPG scripts all in one place.
There used to be a spot like that in rpgmaker.net (but then I got banned, and I basically can only see the site if I use a VPN :avert1 ). So the idea is to try to have very limited conversation in between, and make a sort of library of DynRPG codes.

Currently, I just have stuff I made or was directly involved in, offhand.

MessageExtender2c.zip

(MessageExtender2b uses \a to about \w to extend Previous versions had less commands, or broke if you used \$ because it was missing code for that. I have no idea what to do with \x onward, and I think there used to be \x but it was overwritten)

KazString3b.zip

(This is a two-pack containing the advanced_math and KazString dlls. Advanced_math basically lets you do percent code, formulas with two or three values/variables (the idea being to save lines), squares and roots. I drew the line at log, sine, cosine, tangent. I hate calculus and trig, and I honestly dunno when you'd use them.
KazString does a number of small but really powerful tasks using onComment commands. The original idea was something that Kazesui worked with me to create, which was basically passing Item, Skill, and Condition into a name. Then I figured out how to pass to switches and variables, so I made a bunch of internal variables, but most of these "mystery variables" I dummied out. But I did have the ability to store values into an array (handy for treasure chests), and the ability to compare two names. File_Control was also originally part of the code, before I split this off)

Requested_Patches.zip

(These are two patches that I requested of Cherry and such. The first was a modification of another plugin that animated monsters. The problem was that basically all monsters had to be given frames or the program would crash. For someone who only wanted to animate bosses, this was no good, so I asked for a file that would check The second checked for the presence of a save file. This helped me build a better AEP menu.)

FileControl.zip

(FileControl basically uses C++ filestreaming to create a text file. What for, you ask? Well, you can scan for either the content of the file (allowing you to scan for stuff like open chests) or the file itself (by checking whether the file is good), allowing you to make deletable global strings usable as flags for events. For instance, I used this for an extras menu option, and a GamePlus mode. The value is mostly independent of saves too. Although, it's a bit rough, so I'll probably work on it later)

That's all for now, but maybe it'll inspire other people to post.

Great job. I didn't want to use any patch to stay fully compatible with an hypothetic open source version of RPG_RT.exe (like easyRPG) but now...

I created a new file "are_you_sure.cpp".

I had a similar issue with compiling. I think some versions of MinGW don't quite work. Cherry gave me this MinGW with stuff in a better layout. So I made it into a package. See if this works any better.

LinuxCross.zip

It's called LinuxCross, because my original idea was to be able to create .dll in Linux and be able to code as a Linux user (I have a dual-boot computer so this was an idea I had). The program does let you make them technically, but there is too much Linux stuff interfering with actually making DynRPG plugins. And it basically hates windows.h so... anyway, just replace the MinGW and maybe that might not have the error. Be sure to read the Readme, it has other advice on possible problems (toolchain, the compiler being missing, stuff like that).
