WALKTHROUGH||||||||| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| ----------------- a. The Mainland ----------------- After the intro scene, you learn that you are under the control of an odd shadowy spirit who is seeking something in this wasteland. The spirit lets you know that it's because of him that you're alive and that you must do as he wishes for you and him to be "free again." He tells you to head north towards the shrine to seek help from the guidance spirit. Notice the stand in front of the old house to the right side with someone's glowing eyes. You'll need to come back here. There is also glowing white statue which you can use to save your game. Now go all the way east and head up through the path with two flags. You'll get a white bird to follow with you from here. Call the bird and knock down the gold coin off the pillar. Collect any gold coins you see as you will need them very shortly. Head up and you'll come to a locked door. Call the bird again and hit the two switches above the door to open the door. Walk through the door and head north until you reach the shrine. You'll see that only one of the torches is lit. The spirit tells you that you need to light the other torch in order to call the guidance spirit. So head back south to the beginning. Remember the stand in fron of the house? Go and and talk to the faceless guy and he'll eventually tell you about an old wooden stick he found. He'll say he's willing to sell it if you bring him 5 gold coins. There are 6 gold coins you can find at the outset and they are: 1) Inside the old house directly in front of the stand. 2) Behind the door and roof of the long house at the bottom of the map. 3) Inside the long house. 4) From the beginning go all the way east and enter to the south area where the flag is and you'll find a gold coin down below. 5) From the south area, enter the long house from the second entrance and you'll find another coin hidden in the smoke. 6) In the room where you acquire the power of the white bird, use it to knock down the gold coin from the pillar. Once you've got atleast 5 gold coins, go talk to the guy in the stand and he'll hand you the wooden stick. You can now hold down Z to rush around quickly. Quickly rush back north to the shrine. Light your wooden stick from the already lit torch and use it to light the other torch. The eyes of the statue on the wall will open. Step on the stone parchment in front of the statue and a scene will begin. The shrine spirit agrees to help you reach the ends of the land and to the mighty stone fortress. He questions why a weak soul such as yours would want to reach that dark place but quickly realizes the presence of a stronger being inside of you and agrees to guide the wanderer. He opens the first stone door. Head up and you'll find a pool of water which you can use to heal yourself and a save statue to save your progress. Heal, save and head up and through the stone door. Go up the staircase to the right and right back down the other staircase. Head north. Jump across the chasm and head up. You'll come to another narrow path with a small chasm. Jump across and head north and you'll come to the front of the entrance to the Grotto. ------------ b. Grotto ------------ The grotto is a dark place and you quickly learn that you can't use your bird here. Head up and into the next room. There are two paths here. Go through the left path and don't forget to save your game using the statue in the room. In the next room, hit the crystal switch with your stick to open the path below. Go through the opened path and in the next room, go up the stairs. You'll now come to a larger room with multiple stairs heading north. Take any staircase and head north and up the bridge and through the door. You'll come to a narrow straight path. Head up the staircase and throug to the next room. You'll find two crystal switches here and your way forward blocked. The crystal switch to the right is dead and is of no use. When you hit the right switch, the cave pillars come slightly forward but don't entirely move out of the way. The trick is to hit it once to bring them down and then quickly again to completely move them out of the way. Once you do that, head up to the next room. Climb up the vines on the wall and into the next room. The first of the spike puzzles awaits you in the room. Pull the box down to discover the arrows you need to hit in order to solve the riddle. The arrows to be hit are Up, Down, Left. They need to bit hit in exactly in that order. If you are hit by any of the spikes, the switches will reset. Also, each switch stays down for only certain amount of time so you need to be quick. The easiest way is to simply stand in line of the switch you need to hit and then hold down X to rush across the switch. So get in line with the Up Arrow Switch and when the spikes go down, rush across and hit the switch. Repeat for Down and Left arrows and your path will open. Head out through the right side. You can heal yourself in the pool if you go through to the room to the right. Otherwise head up the stairs, save your game, and go into the next room. Here, you'll find 3 boxes. Simply push them all down into their square panels and the closed gate will open. Head through the open door. The next room is empty and you can just head straight down and into the next room. You'll come to a large room. Head right and down the middle path to be confronted with another spike puzzle. Read the padestal to unfold the riddle which reads "Open your path going up and around clockwise." You can save your game here before you attempt the solve this riddle. The switches you need to hit are Up, Right, Down, and Left. That is clockwise. They need to bit hit in exactly in that order. If you are hit by any of the spikes, the switches will reset. Also, each switch stays down for only certain amount of time so you need to be quick. First plan your path. The most effecient way is to start at the top left switch which is the "UP" switch. When the spikes go down hit the "UP" switch by quickly rushing across and then immediately rush towards the most bottom right switch which is "RIGHT." Wait for the spikes to go down and rush across, hitting the switch. Now rush to the switch immediately above this one. Once again wait for the spikes to go down and then rush and hit the "DOWN" switch. Now quickly rush to the other side, to the most bottom left switch which will be the "LEFT" switch. Wait for the spikes to go down and rush across to hit the last switch. If you did it in a timely manner than the pillars will move to open your path. Head up past the save statue and go left and down the path and down the newly opened path. You'll see lava beneath the railings, head down and then go east. You'll come to an area where your way is blocked by 3 electric bolt like things. You need to find an hit 3 switches to clear them. The first switch is to the right of the bolts, the second switch is to left, and the last one is all the way up at the north end of the room there. Once you hit all three switches, the bolts will dissapear and you can walk through and into the next area. Switch the lever to move the cart over to the right. Head down through the path and into the next room. Step on the switch to lower the spikes and then head right and go through the door. Go through the empty door and you'll come to the room with the cart. Step on the cart and switch the lever and it'll take you to the other side of the room. Get off the cart and you'll find two seperate paths. Head up first and heal and then save. Now go through the right. The next two rooms are empty. Just keep moving along and get two the next point. When you finally come to a well lit and structured room, get ready for the first boss encounter. After the scene shows an open door above, try heading back down and you'll find the room closing upon you. An odd creature will now appear. BOSS BATTLE: PHANTOM This is a fairly simply battle. The idea is to listen for his sounds which indicate he is visible and to quickly get at him. The Phantom has different sets of attacks. At first he will run around from left to right of the screen and vice versa. If you are able to spot him before he runs off, you can get a few hits in. After this phase he appears and stands still in random areas of the map. Find him and attack with the stick. Once you get him a few times, the battle will be over and steps will appear towards the door. Head outside, you are done with the grotto. ----------------- c. Upward Climb ----------------- ...back to the shrine... After you come back outside, you'll find another stone door. The shadowy spirit will remind you that only the shrine spirit can open the stone doors. So now you must head back to the shrine but not through the grotto. That would take too long! Press 1 to open the menu and look at your map. Head down and you'll be somewhere back in the mainland area. Go down past the grounded bridge and switch the lever that is under the tree. The bridge now connects to the other side. Go across the bridge and you'll be in a very familiar place. Go down the stairs and through the bottom path and you'll be back at the shrine place. Stand on the parchment to talk to the shrine spirit. The spirit will open the next stone door for you. Head back north using the same path you used to come back down to the shrine. Go through the opened stone door. After the scene is shown, follow the path up and climb the vines to reach the top. There are mines here so you have to be careful. If you get close, they will detonate. Pass through the mines and follow the path further up to northwest. In the next area you'll find a path leading up and one continuing left. There's no need to head up here at the moment. Follow the path left and up to the next area. Walk carefully through this room, keeping an eye on the mines. Next room you'll find yourdelf in a labyrinth. Head right from here and hit the bomb plant to clear your way. From here just walk all around, hitting bomb plants and avoiding mines, until you reach the flag and the narrow path leading to further north. You'll now find yourself in front of an old stone structure and an opening leading inside. Head in and walk through the opening on the other side to arrive at the graveyard. ----------------- d. Graveyard ----------------- The old graveyard of the past ancestors... The shadowy spirit comes out and tells you that he's known that the only way to pass from here is from below. Hmmm...? It's time to move some tombs and head to the otherside. Head east and you'll find a tomb. Pull it up from above and climb down the hole. Climb further down the decayed green vine and you'll find cavy pillars blocking your way. But there is a bomb in front. Use the toches to light your stick and then light the bomb. Booom! Now go through and climb the vine back up. You'll see another tomb. Pull it up and climb down the hole again. Light the bombs again to clear your way. Head up and you'll now find yourself at a dead end... or so you think. Look at the walls closely and then look at the ground for some marks. One of the walls can be moved. Push the ground marked wall up until you can squeeze through. Climb up the vines and out the hole. Head down and swim through the little pond of water and the come to the are with three ground holes. The southern hole is not accessible. The hole under the tree to the left is a treasure vault with gold coins. The hole to the right takes you forwards. Climb down and then right back out. Save your game and then pull up the last tomb and climb down the hole. Head left and push the wall in the middle to squeeze through. Head up and into the next room. Sidestep the mines and enter the door. There are two crystal switches here that you need to hit with the aid of a boost strip. Hit the first switch and then use the boost strip to head up and quickly hit the other switch before the spikes rise again. Use the rush attack in combination along with the boost strip to move even faster. Once you do that all the spikes will be lowered and you can head up. Head up through the narrow room and prepare for the next boss encounter. BOSS BATTLE: RUNNING BEAST This battle is fairly straight forward. The idea is to hit all the boost strips to gain momentum and hit the running beast. You can also use the rush attack in combination with the boost strips to inflict more hits. However if you mistime the rush with the boost, you'll slow down. As long as you don't miss the boost strips and keep up with the running beast, you'll get him. After you defeat the beast, he'll run into the pillars in the north opening up the path. Head left as the right path is blocked and make your way north and go through the newly opened path. ------------------------ e. North South Stretch ------------------------ Save your game and then carefully pass by the mine. Head north and you'll find the next stone door. You need to head back to the shrine again. Luckily there is a short cut through this North South Stretch. Head left from the stone door and head all the way south until you reach a stream of water. Swim southwards and you'll eventually reach Upward Climb again. Light the bomb and head further down and swim to the other side. Back on land, head east and you'll be in familiar territory. Press 1 to call the menu and take a look at the map. Follow the path going south to reach the shrine in the mainland. ...back at the shrine... Stand on the parchment and the shrine spirit will greet you again. The spirit will open the final stone door from here and says it'll no longer be here so don't come back here anymore. However it promises to help you through other means... The shrine spirit also gives you a stone mask. Now with the stone door open, you need to head back north. As you head up, you'll be attacked by a giant bird and swooped into the sky. -------------------- f. Giant Bird Nest -------------------- When you awaken in this odd place you learn that your wooden stick has gone missing and that the place is surrounded by strange big birds. To distract the bigbirds you can call on your white bird and then use it to interact with the big birds. This will make the big birds look the other way, giving you time to move across. Make sure to save your game. Your wooden stick has been broken into three pieces and scattered around the nest. You need to find all three pieces before you can try and leave. Use the bird to survey the area before you move around as if you get seen by a bird, it'll be Game Over. The first piece is to the bottom left of the first bird. The second piece is to the right side of the first bird. The third and last piece is to middle east part of the map. The exit is all the way south of the map. Once you've got all the pieces, head south distracting the last bird and leave. Your shadowy companion will fix your stick and you will jump down into the water. You'll find yourself close to newly opened stone door. Head left and up through the stone door. ---------------------- g. Great Fish Waters ---------------------- These waters are all that stand before the Stone Fortress... This area is mostly exploration with not much puzzle solving. Walk up and swim towards the save statue. Save your game. Swim north and across to the north. Once on land, walk up and once again swim to the left and then head towards the tower. Climb to the top of the tower and head left. Climb down the tower from the other side. Head south and hit the bomb plant to open your way. Follow the path towards 3 small island platforms. Jump across them to the other side and follow your path south. Swim into the water and go left. Jump down onto a piece of land and then swim all the way north. Swim over and back under the bridge and then finally towards the tower. Climb the tower and head left. Climb down from the upper stairs and swim up. When you get on land with the stairs, jump the left and go up the stairs. Head up and you'll find an old stone house. Save your game and head inside. Inside you'll meet a mysterious girl. After the scene is done, head through the door. You'll be back outside. Follow the path up and go down the hole. Climb down the stairs and head back up and back up the stairs. You'll now be near the Stone Fortress. ------------------- h. Stone Fortress ------------------- OUTSIDE THE FORTRESS Thunder and rain surround the skies... After the scene is done, jump across the water and head north. You'll be shown a scene highlighting the enormous fortress. Your goal is to reach the very top. Climb up the vines and then up the stairs. Save your game and then go left from there and then climb down the vines and climb going up. You'll come towards a windmill like fan which moves around. Wait in the bottom corner and watch the two sides of the fan. One side is bigger than the other. Right when the big side goes around, quickly climb across and down onto the floor. Timing is essential here as there is not much room for error. Head up the full set of stairs and move all the way to the left and you'll find a locked door. Slide through the left cell and step on the switch to open the door. Head inside. Go up the stairs and step on the switch and head out the top door. Back outside, climb the stairs. You will be in front of a large wall with vines covering all corners. Climb the vines from the eastern side. Once at the top, step on the switch and head through the door. INSIDE THE FORTRESS Save your game. Head down the stairs and swim across the pond. Step on the switch and head through the door. You'll encounter the girl again. She'll open the stone doors for you. Follow her. You'll eventually lose sight of her and find yourself in the lost halls. There are three doors in each of these rooms. You need to head through the right ones. Look for which are different and head through doors which seem more welcoming as in they are more open and clear with not too many things blocking the way. In any case, you need to head LEFT, RIGHT, RIGHT, UP. You'll then come to a bright room where you'll be confronted by shadows. As they approach you, the girl appears and throws fire at them and they vanish. They fear fire she then tells you. After she leaves, head through the door ahead. You'll discover a large chasm blocking your way to the altar. Your shadowy companion tells you that this is the only way to the altar. It tells you to jump and leave it to fate for you've come too far not too. So you jump and somehow a bride appears and you land safely. Was the bridge always there...? Hmmm... Now head up and light your stick with fire and head up the stairs. The shadows should all vanish one by one. Head to the next room. This is the last riddle before the final battle. You have to arrange the blocks to make the figure of Bilial. If you mess up you can switch the lever to reset the blocks. Start with the block imprinted with the left face and horn and puch it to the left. Now push down the block imprinted with the right side of the body and hand. Now push the block imprinted with the right side of the face and horn to the right. The right side of Bilial's picture is complete. Now all you have to is push the left side blocks up and complete the picture. A bridge will appear. Head up the bridge and into the next room. Save your game. Head up long set of stairs and you'll eventually reach the altar. Get ready for the last battle... BOSS BATTLE: BILIAL This battle can be difficult if you don't know what you're doing. Simply take cover behind one of the two pillars when Bilial attacks. When he's not attacking, move to the right of the staircase, but don't step on the stairs or that'll trigger an attack, and watch for an opening. The bats that surround him leave an opening at times. When the opening is there, quickly use the rush attack to inflict damage and quickly run back for cover. Repeat this a few times and he'll lose his bat armor and become fully vulnerable and drop to his knees. When he does that, finish him off with numerous body blows. Once he cries his last breath, he'll be defeated. Congratulations, you've completed the game! Sit back and enjoy the ending!
